Gallbladder Stones

Gallstones are more common in women than men, and they are the most important cause of inflammatory gallbladder diseases. It is more common in light-skinned people, those who have given birth and are overweight.

Apart from the gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis), they can cause severe clinical pictures called pancreatitis by obstructing the pancreatic duct, perforation in the gallbladder, jaundice by falling of gallstones into choledochus, and liver abscess.

When the duct of the gallbladder is clogged with stones, the gallbladder swells, becomes inflamed, adheres to the surrounding tissues and creates a very painful condition. Patients who have had acute cholecystitis should be hospitalized and antibiotic treatment should be initiated. However, studies have shown that early and late surgical interventions are not different in terms of postoperative complications.

Since the main organ that secretes the bile is liver, after the gallbladder operations there is no major problem in the digestive system.
